Mandarin Language, Its Variants and Lessons

Chinese language also known as Sinitic languages or Chinese Han is the principal language group of eastern Asia that belong to the Sino-Tibetan language family. Chinese language can be found exists in a wide range of varieties that are famously known as dialects in which tend to be classified as separate language among scholars. The growth of usage in a variety of Chinese language as a native language more than any other spoken language in the world has make the Modern Standard Chinese among the six official languages of the United Nations.

However, the variations and the memberships of the Chinese language belong to the Sino-Tibetan language family has been highly controversial lately as it has been used by over one thousand million people mostly in Southeast Asia and some parts of the worlds including USA. Moreover, the variants of language which can be identify as ‘clusters’ of languages that shared certain features, is also comes with many differences and similarities which has not yet been proved to find a good way to grouping these languages.

In particular, Chinese language is also called Mandarin language which is a tonal language with no tenses, no cases, no plurals, no conjugations and not even genders. Whereas the English language requires various set of grammar to be able in producing the correct verb, the Chinese language has a simple component to make up the verb in literacy. This make the words of Mandarin language can be pronounced in the same way but may entirely change the meanings when using a wrong tone.

Curiosity for people who want to learn the language requires a lot of practise in writing, reading and speaking with regularity in order to see the progress. Other factors include the cultural immersion by enjoying through learning of watching Chinese drama and movies with subtitles as well as listening to the Chinese songs during their free times. It would also benefits the people learning Chinese to have some pen pal or study buddy to build up their confidence in using the language.

As the level increased, they should also increase their amount of input by practising regularly and keep going. Once they are comfortable with the language, they can start to learn the system of pinyin and travelling to the country with most of the citizen using the language. When they have master the language, they can start to meet up with the native speakers and learning some of the language slang.
