In 2015, Zampa got his chance to play for the country for the first time. He was selected for the Chappell-Hadlee trophy which was against New Zealand. He got his chance to play in the second match of the series and there he took 2 wickets by giving out 57 rubs from his 10-over quota of bowling. Zampa was an important member of the 2019 World Cup for Australia and from then he has become the first-choice bowler in the limited-overs teams of Australia. After the year 2019, Zampa played almost 58 ODI matches where he has taken 85 wickets.
On the 4th Of March 2014, Zampa played the first T20 match of his career against the South African cricket team. Though he could not take any wickets on his debut but able to stop the flow of runs of the opposition. Since his debut, Zampa has become a regular member of the squad. On several occasions, Zampa has become the highest wicket-taker of his side and helped the team by taking crucial wickets at important positions in a match.
To date, Zampa has played 73 ODI matches in his career and taken 116 wickets with a respectable bowling average of 30.25 along with an economy of just 5.45. Zampa is a very experienced bowler when it comes to the T20 format. He played 71 T20I matches for his country and took 80 wickets with a brilliant average of 21.98 with a splendid economy rate of only 6.95 which is considered a great economy rate for a bowler in the T20 format.
Zampa in his overall cricket career has played 217 T20 matches which includes country and several T20 leagues and tournaments worldwide and there he took 251 wickets with an extraordinary economy rate of 7.31. All of these statistics prove him one of the best limited-over leg-spin bowlers in this modern world.
Adam Zampa’s IPL Career
Zampa’s low economy rate in the international circuit and his ability to take wickets at regular intervals irrespective of pitch condition have also earned him a place in IPL. In the auction, he was been a very important prospect but at last, he was been bought by the Rising Pune Supergiants. There he played under the captainship of legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni and under the eye of Australia’s captain at that time Steve Smith.
His IPL journey started very well and he produced the best figures as a bowler of all time in IPL that year, 6 wickets for just 19 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. Zampa soon became a very effective bowler on the more spin-friendly pitches of India and he took 19 wickets from 11 matches that he played in his inaugural year.
After having two pretty successful seasons in IPL, Zampa was surprisingly not picked up by any franchises in the auction. But in 2020, Zampa was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore team as a replacement for their prime pacer Kane Richardson, who is also from Australia. There also he performed pretty well. But before the 2022 mega auction, he was released by the team and he remained unsold in the auction.
